SAVAGE
Tony Savage is the Director and CEO of Savage Events Pty Ltd.
Tony’s
career in the music and television industry spans over 40
years and reads like a who’s who of names we all know
and love.
Born
and raised in New Zealand, Tony had always had a calling into
the entertainment and media industry. Tony started out in
bands and by 1970 was the lead singer of ‘Savage’
and ‘Outlaw’ and supported international acts
like Status Quo, Slade, Canned Heat and Deep Purple.
In
1972 Tony moved to Australia and throughout the 70’s
supported acts like AC/DC, Hush, Billy Thorpe, The Angels,
Rose Tattoo, Chisel, Jon English, Skyhooks and more. While
touring Australia, Tony appeared on Countdown, Sounds Unlimited,
Mike Walsh Show and appeared in many Rock Magazines and Newspaper
articles.
1973
and Tony moved into event promotions. His first show was AC/DC’s
debut performance at Chequers. Over the 70’s Tony went
to produce shows like ‘Live at Brookvale’ &
‘Live at Manly Beach’ featuring the Skyhooks.
During this period, Tony was a personal consultant to Midnight
Oil, Stevie Wright and Misex.
By
1980 Tony had encompassed radio and supported Ron Moss to
take Double Jay radio AM to Jay Jay FM. Tony was also instrumental
in the design idea for Triple M’s logo for radio station
owner Rod Muir.
In
1982 Tony was approached by Reel Productions to produce the
vision and script for the new Lambrusco Sparkling Red Wine.
His ad was one of the most successful and remembered campaigns
of it's time.
From
1982 to 1985 Tony was the original concept designer and operator
of Sydney’s number one northern beach’s venue,
‘The Flicks’. During this period Tony contracted
bands such as;
The Knack, Cold Chisel, Rose Tattoo, Kevin Borich Express,
Jon English, Air Supply, Dragon, Mark Williams, INXS, JoJo
Zep, Mental as Anything, Midnight Oil, Ross Wilson, The Saints,
Stephen Cummins, James Rayne, Bo Diddley, The Reels –
Mondo Rock, Matt Finish - Ice House and so on. Anyone who
wanted to be someone in the Sydney music scene wanted a gig
at ‘Flicks’.
During this period, Tony also presented Misex on the ‘Computer
Games’ tour in Sydney and Perth.
1985
and Tony made the decision to step back from entertainment
and focus on his family. He moved back into the building industry
and became one of Sydney’s leading stone masons, securing
the contract for the redevelopment of the Sydney Opera House
outdoor platforms for the bi-centennial celebrations.
Tony
eventually moved back into the music scene in 2000 with the
management of ‘Freight Train’. He helped them
to produce their first single and got them as the support
act to ‘The Angels’, ‘Rose Tattoo’
and ‘Deep Purple’. In 2004 Tony went on to Artist
Management and brought Jac Dalton into the Australian Music
Market, producing 'Both Sides', his debut album and distributed
through Savage Progressive Records, and arranging live shows
and TV appearances to promote the album.
Late
2004, Tony and Tim teamed up to form a dynamic marketing and
media presence in the entertainment and media industries,
and eventually went on to form Savage Global Media; the engine
room behind Savage Events.
